Leylah Fernandez posts moving message celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Leylah Fernandez has been extremely busy in 2026 as she looks to add more success on the court.

Fernandez is a five-time WTA Tour champion and has already reached 13th place in the world rankings.

The Canadian ace, who lost the 2021 US Open final to Emma Raducanu, has since fallen to 25th in the world.

She has already played four tournaments this season, in singles, doubles and even mixed doubles.

Leylah Fernandez celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Fernandez is coming off the Abu Dhabi Open, where she shared a moving message to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

She wrote about Instagram: “To every girl who watches, plays or just starts to believe that she belongs here… yes!

“Women’s sport deserves the attention, the respect and the future we are building together.

“I wouldn’t be here without the women who came before me and the girls who continue to dream alongside me.

“Today we celebrate strength, resilience and the power of believing in ourselves, on and off the field.

“Keep dreaming, keep working, keep holding each other accountable. »

Leylah Fernandez among exciting group of Canadian stars

It’s a powerful message from Fernandez, who is clearly grateful for all the support she’s received and the inspiration she’s drawn from other women over the years.

She is one of countless stars who have helped create a hugely exciting product on the WTA Tour that continues to go from strength to strength.

The Australian Open just showed the exciting state of women’s tennis right now, in which Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina played a thrilling final.

There is real respect and camaraderie between many WTA players, while Fernandez is part of an exciting group of Canadians currently competing.

Young star Victoria Mboko is making real waves on the WTA circuit, while Bianca Andreescu is slowly but surely returning behind the scenes.

On the ATP Tour, Félix Auger-Aliassime is in the top 10, with fellow Canadians Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo both in the top 40.
