The ESPN interview of the Phillies Manager Rob Thomson becomes spectacularly clumsy after the tigers hit 3 consecutive hours

When you interview an MLB manager in the middle of the game, you always open up to risks that the game itself creates a little friction. Like what happened with the manager of Philadelphia Phillies, Rob Thomson on Wednesday.

Speaking with ESPN during the second round with Jesús Luzardo on the mound, Thomson discussed the preparations for the opening day when a jam of two bases and two outings turned into a large home with a field opposite during Jahmai Jones.

Thomson’s only comment: “looked like a change.” He was right. It would also be his last words for the next two minutes, because Andy Ibáñez and Gleyber Torres each followed with circuits of the first step to make three consecutive dingers on three consecutive terrains of Luzardo.

The interviews at stake rarely become more embarrassing than that, especially when the ESPN broadcasters tried to bring Thomson back in conversation with a question on spring training while Torres took his swing.

These three circuits was part of a 17-7 tigers victory. Luzardo finished with six points and six strokes allowed with a walk and two stick withdraws in two rounds on 40 throws.

The training games in the spring do not count and are notoriously bad gauges of what will happen when the games count, but Luzardo in difficulty is not exactly what the phillies want. Philadelphia acquired Luzardo de Miami in one of the largest businesses in the offseason, returning the prospects Starlyn Caba and Emaarion Boyd. CABA is currently the n ° 2 perspective of the agricultural system of the Marlins, by MLB pipeline.

With one of the best rotations in the MLB, the phillies do not need Luzardo to be a star, but he was a high -risk swing and a strong reward for the team front of the team. He looked like a future star in 2022 and 2023, but the injuries limited both his ability to stay on the mound and its effectiveness. He posted an MPM of 5.00 in 56 2/3 sleeves last season, missing most of the season with a lumbar stress reaction.

Thomson begins his third season as a full -time manager of the Phillies, having led them to the World Series 2022 as a provisional. He Signed an extension of contract with the team that will win during the 2026 season.
