Bristol City have signed striker Delano Burgzorg from Championship rivals Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season.

The Dutchman has made 71 appearances for Boro, including 25 in the league this season, scoring eight goals in his season and a half with the club.

The 27-year-old, who has also been on loan at Huddersfield Town, signed a four-year contract on Teesside in 2024 when he joined Bundesliga club Mainz.

The Robins have been linked with a move for Burgzorg throughout the January transfer window.

“We’ve done it, he’s here and now we’re starting the time to integrate him very quickly into our style of football,” Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber told BBC Radio Bristol.

“We are happy to be able to successfully finalize this long story.

“It was a clear objective that we had to make our team bigger and stronger, especially at the striker position. He is a player who can give us very good dynamics, very good physical power and we must develop him.”

Burgzorg is City’s third January signing after Sam Morsi and fellow midfielder George Terreuxthe latter returning for a second loan spell from West Ham.

Struber has wanted to strengthen the Robins’ attacking team for some time, in order to support Emil Riis, who signed last summer.

Following initial interest from City at the start of the transfer window, Burgzorg’s move to Ashton Gate appeared to have been successful. fell through last week.

Suggesting his side failed to sign Burgzorg, Struber told BBC Radio Bristol: “We were very close, everything was negotiated very well but we got the stop signs from Middlesbrough.”

But, after sell forward Anis Mehmeti At Ipswich Town on Friday, City decided to reopen talks with Boro and finally achieved their long-held goal with four days remaining in the window.

Struber said he was “relieved” to have completed the deal and stressed the aim was to continue to develop Burgzorg, who has scored just twice for Boro this campaign.

“Now is the time where we need to bring out the best in Delano and help and support him to (at) Bristol City (be) not only a dynamic and physical striker, but also a goal-scoring striker.”

Bristol City continue their Championship campaign with a home match against Derby County on Friday (20:00 GMT).
