It has been a difficult time for the WNBA and the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA) as they continue to struggle to find a compromise regarding the New Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The new season is expected to begin in May, but a lockout is highly possible if the WNBA and WNBPA fail to reach agreement in the coming weeks.
Many stars, including Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart, Seattle Storm forward Nneka Ogwumike and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese said they were ready to strike.
Collier, vice president of the WNBPA, said the union has urged players to save their money amid ongoing negotiations.
“You never know what’s going to happen. If there’s no season, we want to make sure that everyone is prepared. So I hope that everyone has done that. It’s something that everyone has been talking about for a very long time. Plus, it’s something that everyone is checking because the options change over time,” Collier said on “Hoops 360.”

The Lynx star made it clear she doesn’t want a lockout. But if the WNBA, which has seen unprecedented success in recent years, doesn’t agree to a proper CBA with the players, Collier argued they have no choice but to hold on.
“We want a season to happen, but if we don’t get the things that we want to stay 10 toe on, then we’re going to be out for as long as it takes. That’s not what everyone wants, but it’s what we’re willing to do to get things that we think are right,” Collier added.
The WNBA and WNBPA met in New York last month, but the league did not respond directly to the union’s demands.
Collier, however, noted that she thinks things are “going in the right direction.”
