There was no rest for the bad guys when they were AEW champions, and that statement means even more when it comes to Jon Moxley. Fresh out of his draw with Konosuke Takeshita at AEW Grand Slam Australia and during his appearance at House Rules in Brisbane on February 15, Moxley was back in action from February 18 episode of “AEW Dynamite” as he faced Mark Davis in an AEW Continental Championship elimination match. However, Moxley didn’t let the jet lag get the better of him as he was able to sideline family member Don Callis.
The biggest turning point of the match came just before the commercial break when Davis attempted to throw a straight right hand to Moxley’s head, but the champion dodged and “Dunkzilla” hit the ring post, shattering his hand. Moxley would target the injured hand throughout the match, forcing Davis to adjust his attack and hit the champion with elbows and forearms instead of punches. “Dunkzilla” managed to make a big comeback by getting a number of near falls, even hitting a Gut Screw Piledriver where Moxley had only just raised his shoulder.

Davis went to finish things with his trademark Close Your Eyes Piledriver but Moxley countered it with a stomp, causing a double down. Once both men got to their feet, Moxley and Davis attempted to take each other down with a series of Lariat attempts, but they were both tied on the first two strikes. The third strike saw Moxley fall to his knees, which appeared to give Davis an opening, but it was only a shot from the champion that flipped Davis over to lock him in the Bulldog Choke. With nowhere else to go, “Dunkzilla” bowed out and Moxley emerged victorious in his fourth Eliminator match since winning the AEW Continental Championship at the Continental Classic tournament at World’s End 2025.
