Iowa Basketball star Bennett Stirtz was unstoppable on Sunday.
In the Hawk Eye 84-66 victory against Oregon DucksStirtz scored 32 points on an incredibly efficient 12-15 shot from the field. He added seven assists and two steals, while committing just one turnover all night despite playing 38 minutes. His efforts in this game were one of the main reasons he was named the best Big Ten Co-Player of the Week Monday. But that wasn’t the only reward that came from this match for Stirtz.

In the first half of the victory, the senior point guard reached an impressive career milestone: 2,000 career points.
Stirtz had accumulated his points at three different schools. So far this season, he has scored exactly 400 points with the Hawkeyes. He had 673 points at Drake last season, his first campaign in Division I. The rest of his career came with Division II Northwest Missouri State, where he spent the first two years of his career with Ben McCollum. Stirtz scored 945 points in his two seasons with the Bearcats.
While the raw scoring numbers are impressive, Stirtz’s efficiency could be better. Throughout his college career, he shot 52.3% from the field, 38.5% from behind the arc, and 82.5% from the free throw line. These are incredibly efficient numbers for any player, but especially for a guard. No matter what level of college basketball he played, Stirtz dominated.

Iowa fans should appreciate Stirtz and what he’s doing while he’s still here. He’s one of the best pure talents to grace the field in black and gold in recent memory, and could be one of the biggest reasons the Hawkeyes finally experience big success in March.
