Las Vegas Raiders Wide receiver Davante Adams is widely considered one of the best pass catchers in the NFL. Adams has been very productive and winning throughout his career and is revered by quarterbacks everywhere he goes. That being said, how is it possible that Adams’ name is floating around during the impending trade deadline?
Although it seems absurd to think, the fact remains that the idea of an Adams trade is being discussed around the league. The reality is that it’s not because he’s no longer productive or that the Raiders don’t want him. That’s because it seems Adams doesn’t want it.
Davante Adams trade rumors
Although Adams is still considered one of the best receivers in the game and still has years left on his contract in Las Vegas, his name is making a lot of noise in the NFL world as the deadline Tuesday’s exchanges are getting closer. The reason for the discussion is due to Adams’ dissatisfaction with his role in Vegas and his frustration on a team where he is not utilized properly is growing.
The Raiders traded for the wideout two offseasons ago, then later signed him to a five-year, $141.25 million contract, which made him the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL at the time. Originally, the plan was to pair Adams with his former college quarterback and then Raiders starting QB, Derek Carr.
However, Carr is now in New Orleans with the Saints, Adams is in a situation he didn’t originally sign up for, and the combination of the two, plus the fact that the Raiders have struggled this season, led to some unstable feelings on the part of the receiver.
Davante Adams Business Reality
The reality of the situation is that even if Adams wants to leave Vegas, it doesn’t seem like the team feels the need to. According to a Report from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter As of early last week, the Raiders have no plans to trade Adams before Tuesday’s deadline.
Despite the team’s stance taken by Schefter, Adams further added fuel to the fire with his comments following the Raiders’ victory on the Patriots.
“I’m sure people are wondering, ‘They won the game, why is there a problem?’ I mean, you see why it’s a problem,” Adams said. “You all should know who I am, know what I do at this point. When you are a player like me, mentally my benchmark is not wins and losses, but greatness.
“So when I go there, I expect to be able to have that ability to put that on tape and have an impact on the game. That’s the purpose of me being here. I’m not here just to go out; I came here to win and to do it the right way.
The Raiders take on the Lions tonight on Monday Night Football, and while we know the likelihood of Adams being dealt between now and tomorrow is slim to none, the fact remains that if the Raiders want to keep him and return him Glad they need to get Adams more deeply involved in the offensive game plan.
