High school star opts out Michigan football.

Peter Bourque, the No. 8 quarterback recruit in the class of 2027, has decommitted from Michigan and reopened his recruitment.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report the clearance.

CHANGING FACES: Michigan football shakes up recruiting and personnel department

THE Wolverines first landed at Bourquea four-star recruit from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, on August 11. However, the 2025 season didn’t go exactly as planned for the Wolverines, with coach Sherrone Moore fired in December for alleged misconduct and the university hires new coach Kyle Whittingham later in the month.

Since Bourque was originally recruited by Moore, his decommitment may not be all that surprising. Bourque received interest from Penn State, Missouri, Virginia Tech and Georgia during his recruiting process.

By 247 SportsMichigan now has three commitments for the 2027 class: Edge Rusher Recarder Kitchen from Muskegon, interior lineman Louis Esposito de Saline (the son of former UM DL coach Lou Esposito, who left Ann Arbor last week for the same job with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens) and interior lineman Tristan Dare from Southlake Carrol, Texas.
