Kleven hit the most powerful shot in the league for the Ottawa Senators against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 31 and is tied for 10th among NHL defensemen in shots over 90 mph (20) this season.
Only four NHL players have recorded multiple shot attempts over 100 mph this season: Winnipeg Jets defenseman Colin MillerChicago Blackhawks defenseman Louis CrevierNew York Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock (three each) and Boston Bruins forward Morgan Geekie (two).
Maximum skating speed: 24.61 miles per hour – Connor McDavid (F, EDM)
McDavid reached his NHL EDGE tracking era peak skating speed (since 2021-22) for the Edmonton Oilers against the Calgary Flames on October 8, 2025, surpassing his previous high of 24.19 mph from the 2023-24 season.
The only peak skating speed faster than McDavid’s mark in the regular season or Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2021-22 was Miles Wood (24.82 mph) last season. McDavid, who became the first player to reach 90 points this season and the second player all-time to reach that mark in 10 consecutive seasons (other: Wayne Gretzky), also leads the league in bursts of speed over 22 mph (100) and over 20 mph (475).
High Danger Save Percentage: 0.882 – Ilya Sorokin (G, JNI)
Among goaltenders who have played at least 15 games this season, Sorokin leads the NHL in high-danger saves (300) and high-danger save percentage (300 saves on 340 shots faced). Sorokin stopped all 21 shots he faced against the Philadelphia Flyers on January 26 to post his third shutout of the month and his league-high sixth of the season. The 30-year-old has the most shutouts (28) since entering the NHL in 2020-21 and has already set a franchise record in this category.
Shots on goal at mid-distance: 107 – Nathan Mackinnon (F, COL)
The Colorado Avalanche forward leads the NHL in shots on goal and mid-range goals (16) this season as the 30-year-old aims for his first career Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy. MacKinnon is a location shooting heavyweight who also ranks among the forward leaders in high-danger shots on goal (50; 92nd percentile) and long-range shots on goal (20; 96th percentile). MacKinnon was the first player to reach the 40-goal mark this season and became the fourth in franchise history to reach the mark four times in his career (others: Michel Goulet, Joe Sakic and Peter Stastny).
Last season, MacKinnon had a league-high 138 shots on goal from mid-range, while half of his goals (16 of 32) came from mid-range areas.
