I am writing to express my unequivocal support for the re-election of Adam Fortney as sheriff of Snohomish County. Sheriff Fortney has brought positive change to the Sheriff’s Office and our community through collaboration, transparency, dedication, justice, communication, honesty, servant leadership and integrity.
Over the past 31 years of my law enforcement career, I have worked for 7 police chiefs and sheriffs; and I was appointed to the previous sheriff’s command. From experience, I can say that no law enforcement officer succeeds all the time. Even fewer of them admit their wrongs, apologize, and have the courage to make changes and move in a different direction. Sheriff Fortney represents this group of rare leaders. He is honest, intelligent, humble, courageous, hardworking, impartial, committed and a dedicated public servant who sincerely believes that law enforcement is for all.
Unfortunately, resumes and accomplishments have been a big topic in this election; and one candidate has more than the other. However, if you stay away from any political rhetoric, consider who Sheriff Fortney appointed to manage the four offices of the Sheriff’s Office. I would put their resumes, training, and experience today in competition with anyone in leadership positions in law enforcement; and any person who has served or is currently seeking to serve as sheriff.
Sheriff Fortney’s character, faith, dedication and commitment to protecting our communities make him a remarkable leader. I wholeheartedly support Sheriff Fortney and am grateful for his unwavering commitment and service to our community.
