The future of Kevin Willard in Maryland was a hot topic during the first week of the NCAA tournament. It did not change Thursday when the March Madness of the Terraapins race ended with a sweet defeat against Florida.
In the last minutes of the match, the game advertiser Kevin Harlan addressed Willard’s situation.
“There have been a lot of discussions on the next step, if it’s really a step,” said Harlan. “Will he stay?” Or will he find frustration and will he move on? “
“Or does he just do what university basketball coaches will have to do? And that is to say, try to make sure that his basketball team gets the resources you need when you are in a league like Big Ten? It is a football league. Everyone says:” Well, most of the resources go to football.
“Listen, if I’m Maryland, I’m going to do what it takes to keep Kevin Willard,” said his colleague Stan Van Gundy. “He is an exceptional coach. He knows what it takes to win. He did a great job with your program. Interest and do what it takes to keep the guy. Do not let him run away to someone else. ”
Dan Bonner: “Is it fair to do what university basketball coaches will have to do … is it to try to make sure that (Maryland) gets the resources she needs …”

Willard had already been asked about his comments concerning the desire for a bigger share. He Deviation of this question By saying that his biggest concern was how his team would stop Walter Clayton from Florida. And although there have been a lot of speculation on Willard receiving a large extension of contract from Maryland, no announcement has been made – at least Not concerning the coach’s contract.
After the game, Willard discussed what could come and did it with great uncertainty.
“I don’t know what I’m doing,” said Willard. “I’m just going to be honest with you. I haven’t talked to my agent. I didn’t talk to my wife. I made a promise to this team that I was going – simply focus on this team. And that’s all I did. So, I didn’t talk to anyone. I don’t know.”
Kevin Willard: “I don’t know what I do … I didn’t talk to my agent. I didn’t talk to my wife … I am an agent; I’m sure he is talking to people because that’s what agents like to do, but I don’t know.”

When asked if he wanted to approach things differently, Willard offered a brief answer.
“No, not at all,” he said.

The coach had a similar answer when he was asked if one of the hoots he had heard when leaving the team hotel could make him guess if he wanted to be in Maryland.
“Not at all,” said Willard. “I have my guy. We would not be in Sweet 16 if it was not for Harvey Sanders. Harvey Sanders directs our collective. Does all the biggest hug.
“No way.”

At this point, Willard’s press conference suddenly ended.
Time will tell us if his mandate in Maryland follows suit.
