Kansas basketball added another chapter to Allen Fieldhouse history on Big Monday as Bill himselfThe numbers have become even harder to believe. In a prime-time Kansas vs. Houston Big Monday showdown, the No. 14 Jayhawks took on the No. 5 Cougars 69-56 to keep a decades-old national standard intact. The result pushed Self’s Big Monday home record to an impeccable 41-0 and underlined how Dominant Kansas stays in the spotlight.

The official Jayhawks account captured the mood on X (formerly known as Twitter) by highlight the sequence this never ceases to shock the national public. With the 41-0 graphic splashed across the screen, the message distills what it feels like when Kansas closes out another national television showcase at The Phog and reminds everyone why Allen Fieldhouse still possesses a mystique that few buildings can match.

“and it doesn’t get much better than that, folks.”

The night looked shaky early after the Jayhawks missed nine of their first 10 shots and went more than eight minutes without a field goal. Houston took advantage to build a 27-20 lead before Kansas finally found its footing, going on an 11-0 run to close the half and take a 31-27 advantage into the break. In a few furious minutes, Allen Fieldhouse’s home dominance was restored in front of a roaring crowd that turned the energy around and brought the momentum back to the home bench.

After halftime, the Jayhawks tightened the screw. Tre White scored a season-high 23 points, while Darryn Peterson, Bryson Tiller and Melvin Council Jr. provided balanced support, contesting shots, breaking the glass and attacking the rim. A 12-0 spurt extended a two-point advantage to a 49-35 lead, and Houston never got closer than 10 again as the Kansas vs. Houston Big Monday showdown turned into a statement on Self’s grip on the court and the tenacity of the roster after a tough loss to Cincinnati.

Victory pushed Kansas to 21-7 overall and 11-4 in the Big 12, tying Houston in the conference race while pushing Self’s Big Monday home record to 41-0 and providing another reminder that his teams almost never waste a national television stage in Lawrence.
