Kentucky basketball head coach Marc Pope already has the challenge of leading his team through a significant SEC domain.
But it seems another topic has sparked discussion. During his press briefing on Friday, the Pope expressed his dissatisfaction with the length of the regular season and offered a complete solution, via Tres Terrell of Cats Coverage.
“The season goes by quickly every year,” Pope said. “It’s just not long enough. I just think it’s time to expand our season to 40 games. It should be a 40-game season. Especially with all the changes and the turnover and the lack of team continuity. Also with the revenue sharing and everything else. It doesn’t make any sense that we’re in a 31-game season. It doesn’t make any sense. So I’m a strong advocate, maybe the only one in the world. But we need to expand this season to 40 games, even for guys who turn pro, it gives them a better idea, I talked about that.
The Wildcats will open the magical month of March with hopes of securing a victory against No. 1 Auburn on Saturday.
Mark Pope raves about Kentucky basketball chemistry this season
Kentucky enters the crucial stages of its season at 19-9 and 8-7 in conference play. Pope spoke of the confidence he has in his team and their commitment to winning big games in the future.
“It’s hard to put into words what it’s like to be able to coach guys who are willing to invest so incredibly hard into the program, into the jersey and into the state,” Pope continued. And that it means as much to them as it does to me, and that they’re willing to love each other as much as these guys do, it’s an incredibly special group of seniors.
Pope and Kentucky have three games remaining before the SEC tournament begins March 12, where fans will witness some of the loudest games in the country during Champ Week.
