THE Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Friday, December 19 that the former Auburn Basketball The coach was among its contingent of newly eligible candidates for induction. He is part of a contingent of nine candidates for his first appearances, including Blake Griffin, Candace Parker, Joe Johnson and the Houston coach. Kelvin Sampsonamong others.

“The candidates for the Class of 2026 have each left an indelible impact on the game of basketball,” John L. Doleva, president and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, said in a statement. “Through defining performances, influential leadership and achievements that have helped elevate the sport on the national and international stage, this year’s ballot recognizes those whose legacies continue to shape the way the game is played, coached and celebrated.
Finalists for enrollment will be announced at a later date, according to a release, and the entire Class of 2026 will be revealed on April 4, 2026. Schedules and broadcast networks for finalists and class announcements will be released on February 9, 2026.
The dedication weekend will begin August 14, 2026 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, followed by a dedication ceremony the next day in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Pearl’s career as a college basketball player had just ended when he and the program announced his retirement in September. His 11-season stay on the Plains was undoubtedly the highlight of the program’s 119-year history. He walked away as the program’s winningest coach of all time, with a 246-125 record in the Plains.
His final record after more than three decades as a college basketball head coach stands at 708-269. Pearl’s 708 wins were 10th among active Division I head coaches at the time of his retirement, behind Arkansas’ John Calipari, Kansas’ Bill Self, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and several others.
