In the last broadcast of “Show Me Something” Podcast On December 4, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham not only revealed that she would be joining the new offseason league, Project B, but also shared a glimpse of teammate Caitlin Clark’s plans for the new WNBA alternative.
During Cunningham’s casual description of the new league and his attempt to differentiate it from similar off-season competitors like Unrivaled and Athletes Unlimited (AU), the energetic veteran said the many leagues have the platform on which to thrive because of the recent attention gained by the WNBA over the past few seasons.

“So, here’s my thing. All these leagues are great, but at the end of the day, if you don’t have the W (WNBA), you don’t have the platform. So you don’t have the eyes, you don’t have the recognition,” Cunningham said.
After co-host Wes Wilson jokingly responded to Cunningham referencing WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englebert’s outlandish comments saying Caitlin Clark should be grateful for the WNBA’s platform by stating, “That’s right, Caitlin Clark. You’ve got the W.”
Cunningham later revealed that she had tried to lure the Hawk Eye legend to play in the Project B league, but Clark vehemently declined the invitation.
“I tried to get her to play in this one,” Cunningham said. “She says ‘No’.”
Although Cunningham did not elaborate on her attempt to bring the two-time WNBA All-Star into the Project B league, Clark’s rejection is in line with the Fever star’s offseason plans to avoid any risks that could jeopardize her ability to play in the upcoming WNBA season and potentially for Team USA in the upcoming 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in September.

Although the new league’s salary would be considerably higher than its competitors and light years away from the WNBA’s current salary, the possibility of earning more money playing internationally in Project B likely doesn’t concern Clark, given that she was just named. No. 6 on Sportico’s list of highest-paid female athletes in 2025.
