Washington Commanders Head coach Dan Quinn finally introduced offensive coordinator David Blough and defensive coordinator Daronte Jones Tuesday. THE Commanders He promoted Blough a month ago and hired Jones two weeks ago, but Quinn was likely waiting to finalize the assistant coaching positions before meeting with the media.
Speaking of Washington’s assistant coaches, Quinn officially confirmed several of the Commanders’ recent hires, including new defensive line coach and running game coordinator Eric Washington.

-
Eric Washington: defensive line coach/running game coordinator
-
DJ Williams: Quarterbacks Coach
-
Danny Etling: Assistant Quarterbacks Coach
Here are the Washington coaches who adjusted titles through promotions, demotions, and more.
-
Darnell Stapleton: offensive line coach
-
Anthony Lynn: running backs coach (formerly running game coordinator)
-
Shane Toub: Assistant Offensive Line Coach
-
Andre Coleman: Assistant Wide Receivers Coach/Returns Coach
-
William Gay: defensive backs/cornerbacks coach
-
Tommy Donatell: defensive backs/safeties coach
-
Darryl Tapp: assistant defensive line coach
-
John Pagano: outside linebackers coach
-
Jesse Madden: assistant running backs coach
-
Wes Welker: offensive assistant
Tapp was Washington’s defensive line coach the past two seasons, but will now assist Washington. Donatell was secondary coach for two seasons, but will now coach safeties, while Gay was promoted from assistant defensive backs coach to cornerbacks coach. Jones is a longtime defensive backs coach and will likely help this group.
Pagano is now the outside linebackers coach, which could indicate a change of plan for Washington’s defense. This is something to watch out for.
One of the most interesting takeaways from the commanders’ staff shakeup is that Lynn is no longer the offensive running game coordinator. It would be interesting to hear Quinn’s reasoning on this. Another thing to note, Brian Johnson remains the assistant head coach/passing game coordinator. Washington would like to keep Johnson, but he interviewed for other jobs and was passed over in favor of Blough as the new offensive coordinator.
