Former LSU football linebacker Greg Penn III has joined Lane Kiffin’s staff at LSU as a defensive analyst, according to ESPN’s Matt Moscona. Penn was a three-year starter at LSU and wore the coveted No. 18 in 2024, the jersey awarded to the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a teammate and a Tiger.
Penn was a vital part of LSU’s defense during his time in Baton Rouge, accumulating 264 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles during his four seasons with the program. He was received the George Wallace Memorial Award after his senior season, which is presented to the defensive player who “distinguishes himself through his performance, leadership and commitment to the team.”

Penn tried to find a place in the NFL last season, but will now return to Baton Rouge to work under his former defensive coordinator, Blake Baker.

His leadership and love for the program should be a major asset to a coaching staff that has made over 40 transfers this offseason. With all the new faces in the building, Penn can hopefully help them unite around a common goal: getting LSU the national championship that Penn was never able to win as a player.
