Barcelona’s electoral process has officially begun, starting with the resignation of Joan Laporta as club president.

Laporta is seeking re-election as Barcelona’s next president, but faces tough competition from Victor Font.

In an election that will dictate Barcelona’s roadmap, former players like Xavi Hernandez and Lionel Messi have become a crucial theme.

But while Xavi is siding with Font in this election, Messi has kept a low profile so far, even though he doesn’t have a great relationship with Laporta and every reason to support Font as well.

Messi’s position in the Barcelona elections

According to SPORT JournalMessi has made his position clear in the ongoing electoral process in Barcelona.

The Argentinian decided not to participate in or influence the elections. As such, he will not meet any of the candidates, including Font, although the latter openly admitted that the first thing he would do after his victory would be to call Messi.

The report confirms that Messi’s relationship with Laporta is broken. But the Argentinian will still not vote in this election.

This is a significant change from recent elections, as Messi has often participated in the process and voted.

The Inter Miami star also decided not to mention any of the candidates by name, knowing they could play a huge role in influencing the election.

However, the report points out that Messi could take part in Barcelona’s upcoming elections, either through open support or even a candidacy.

The main reason why he is not participating in this election is that the player is too busy with his life in the United States, where he is an active player for Inter Miami. It could be a completely different story in the next election.
