John Williams writes a new theme for the College Football Playoff National Championship and remains the GOAT | This is the loop

Think about a movie. John Williams probably wrote the score.

The creeping tension in “Jaws”, the lyrical flight of “Harry Potter”, the entire “Star Wars” saga… it’s all Williams.

But for all his accolades, accomplishments and aural genius, Williams will have his work cut out for him writing ESPN’s new theme for the TCU-Georgia national championship game on Monday. Entitled “Of courage and glory” (Yes of course), Williams try to transmit “the feeling behind the night, the fear and anticipation, the triumph and failure.” Variety called it “a joyful opener, opening with fanfares and moving smoothly from martial urgency to anthemic splendor,” and isn’t that what it’s all about?

He’s not just a piano guy either. It took a 96-piece orchestra on Sony’s stage to get it perfect, and it’s apparently ESPN’s largest music commission.

This isn’t Williams’ first foray into football as he created the majestic theme for Sunday Night Football. Here it is, because, to be honest, it’s fantastic and I want to hear it again.

The new score will be heard throughout ESPN’s coverage of the College Football Playoff finale on Monday, with “cutdowns and stingers” to be played throughout the game. It won’t just be an opening. That’s it.

We can’t wait to hear what he’s built for TCU and Georgia. In fact, you probably don’t even need to watch the game. Listen.
