Five games into the college basketball season, it’s not often you see two undefeated teams. This was the case Tuesday evening, with UNC and St. Bonaventure battle in the Fort Myers (Florida) Tip-Off.

When the final buzzer sounded, North Carolina remained undefeated, pulling away from a tight halftime advantage for an 85-70 victory. The Tar Heels (6-0) now head into a Thanksgiving showdown against Michigan Statewhich topped East Carolina in an 89-56 decision Tuesday.

At first glance, you might think Tuesday was just another win for UNC. If you believe in superstitions, North Carolina is well on its way to college basketball immortality.

The Tar Heels are 6-0 for the first time since their 2016-17 season. This campaign remains a great memory in Chapel Hill, with UNC wins its sixth NCAA tournament championship.

North Carolina’s 2016-17 title-winning team featured many program legends and future NBA players, including Luke Maye, Joel Berry and Kennedy Meeks. Don’t forget Isaiah Hicks, Nate Britt or Kenny Williams.

Your 2025-2026 Tar Heels are anchored by the imposing star position duo of Henri Veesaar and Caleb Wilsonwho each posted a double-double in Tuesday’s victory. UNC is bigger on its roster, which head coach Hubert Davis praised during the offseasonas well as the necessary depth and experience play a huge role in early season success.

The team has 11 new players this year. If North Carolina continues to play at its current level, a seventh national championship is not out of the question.
