Sophie Cunningham played a vital role for the Indiana Fever last season. However, that was before the 6-foot-1 guard’s season was cut short by a knee injury. Cunningham tore the MCL in his right knee in August, requiring season-ending surgery. She was limited to 30 games in her first campaign for the Fever, averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.7 triples in 25.2 minutes per game.
Off the court, the 29-year-old has been busy during the WNBA offseason. Cunningham has several endorsement deals with various brands and she also hosts her own podcast, “Show Me Something,” alongside reality TV star and good friend West Wilson.

Aside from that, Cunningham also stays active with her basketball roots. On Friday, she made an exciting announcement about her latest initiative.

Cunningham joined the Fever last offseason via a multi-team trade deal. She spent the first six years of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury, but her tenure ended after she was traded to Indiana in February.
Since then, Cunningham’s rise to fame has been unprecedented. After a story related to Caitlin Clark incident during a game against the Connecticut Sun in June, the former Missouri Tigers star became an overnight social media sensation.

Cunningham, however, does not forget her commitment to advancing women’s basketball. On Friday, she took to social media to announce details of the fourth annual Sophie Cunningham Classic.
“So you know I do the Sophie Cunningham Classic every year,” she said on her Instagram Stories. “It’s a high school girls basketball tournament. There’s a lot of top teams in the United States, a lot of top players that are going to be in this Classic, so I’m super, super excited for that.
“Plus, we have a ton of new sponsors, a lot of fun giveaways and opportunities there, which I’m excited about. But the tickets just became available today, and so on the next slide, go ahead and click. I’m going to post the registration link. You guys buy your tickets there, and I’ll also post the schedule and everyone who’s attending.”

As Cunningham noted in his announcement, tickets are now available for the tournament, which will take place Jan. 9-11 in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri. One of the main sponsors of the event is Adidas, which is one of Cunningham’s sponsors.
The Fever star also announced that she plans to be there for the entire event.
“So, I’m excited,” Cunningham continued. “It’s going to be so much fun. It’s bigger and better than ever. … So, yeah, come hang out. Come see me. I’ll be here all weekend.”

As for his basketball, Cunningham will officially become an unrestricted free agent once the window opens on February 1. She will need to negotiate a contract extension with the Fever to potentially stay in Indiana for 2026 and beyond.
