Last week, Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun had what seemed like a normal day at work. The Los Angeles Sparks couldn’t do much to stop the 10th-year forward, who was circling the lane and firing feathery shots off the backboard. She detected open teammates; she tightened her hands around the loose balls. The activity totaled 27 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds.
It was Thomas’ sixth triple-double of the season, more than any other player in WNBA history over an entire career. “I love them all,” Thomas said after the game when asked if this particular version, which included a half-dozen interceptions, had any added significance. She shrugged her shoulders. “I guess this one is special too.”
