The first two games of the WNBA Finals between the Aces and Liberty made the series “the most watched in 20 years,” as the league continues to “fight for viewers during one of the busiest times in the sports calendar. The audience for the two matches is up 13% compared to last year’s final between the Aces and the Sun. The first game on ABC averaged 729,000 viewers, while Game 2 averaged 626,000 on ESPN. The two-game average of 680,000 is “an increase the league hopes to continue.” The Finals opened on an NFL Sunday, and the opening game was still the “most-watched Game 1 since ESPN began broadcasting the series” in 1998. Game 2, Wednesday night, was is played “with the MLB playoffs in full swing” (AP, 10/13).
