Frankie Muniz, the former child star who lives in the Phoenix area, is set to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship race at Phoenix Raceway next month.

Muniz will likely have to qualify to compete in the championship race based on the number of entries, according to information provided by NASCAR track communications. He’s not in contention for the Truck Series title but he could still make the race.

Muniz told People magazine in an article published Tuesday that he joins Reaume Brothers Racing as a full-time driver of the No. 33 Ford F-150 in the upcoming 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season.

But before that, Muniz will compete in the NASCAR Championship Weekend at Avondale on November 8. He is expected to compete in this Saturday’s Trucks race in Homestead, Fla., south of Miami, where he can qualify for the Phoenix race.

Even if this attempt fails, Muniz could still qualify on November 8 at Avondale.

After racing full-time in the ARCA Menard Series last year, Muniz, according to ESPN, competed in two Xfinity Series races and two Truck races in 2024. His best finish was a 29th place finish in the Truck race in Kansas on September 27.

Muniz, 38, was the star of the television sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” in the early 2000s. He entered the world of stock car racing in 2006, but had to withdraw due to injuries on the back and wrist in 2009.

An Arizona Cardinals fan who is often seen at other area sporting events, Muniz returned to racing last year with the NASCAR-run Menard’s Series.
