Serbian youngster Mihailo Topic recently won the national under-12 title and had the opportunity to meet the world number one during Djokovic’s stay in Serbia this week. After winning his record eighth Australian Open title in Melbourne, Djokovic is taking a break and is back home in Serbia with his family.
On Monday, Topic, 10, whose expenses are covered by Djokovic, tweeted that he had met with Djokovic and his coach, former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, who is also in Serbia with Djokovic. Topic has been in the spotlight for some time now for his precocious talent as a young player that has caught the attention of tennis officials in Serbia as well as Djokovic’s entourage.
The world number 1 was so impressed by the young player that he signed an official sponsorship deal, according to which Djokovic would cover all of Mihailo’s expenses, including paying the coach, booking the courts and tennis equipment. Topic is certainly grateful for all the help he received from the Serbian legend and expressed it in his tweet.
Meanwhile, Djokovic himself is expected to return to the court in Dubai next week for the ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
