THE Yankees added three players to their 40-man roster Sunday night, choosing to protect OF Taylor Trammel, RHP Yerry de los Santosand receiver JC Escarra of minor league free agency.
Trammell, 27, was claimed by New York on waivers of the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 18. He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds with the No. 35 pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. Trammell was named MVP of the 2018 All-Star Futures Games and was subsequently traded twice, first to San Diego in 2019, then to Seattle in 2020. He debuted with Seattle in 2021 and played there for three seasons until being DFA’ed before the 2024 season.
Trammell was claimed by Los Angeles in April and played five games for the Dodgers before being waived again and picked up by the Yankees. He appeared in five games for New York with only two plate appearances before spending the rest of the year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The outfielder hit .256 with 18 homers, 20 doubles, two triples and 63 RBIs in 106 games. He owns a career MLB batting average of .167 over 126 games with 15 home runs and 16 doubles.
De los Santos, 26, was signed by the Yankees as a minor league free agent last November after being with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization since 2015. He made his major league debut in 2022 and has pitched 48 games for Pittsburgh over two seasons, owning a 1-4 record and 4.14 ERA with 44 strikeouts. The right-hander pitched in 51 games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre during the 2024 season, going 2-2 with a 4.12 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 51 games (59.0 IP).
Escara, 29, was signed by the Yankees as a minor league free agent in January and split his time between Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 124 combined games, Escara hit .261 with 12 home runs, 32 doubles, three triples and 64 RBIs.
MLB teams can begin officially signing players Monday at 5 p.m., five days after the World Series ends.
