Sept. 23 — WILLMAR — The Willmar girls tennis team remains winless in the Central Lakes Conference after being swept by Fergus Falls on Monday.
The Otters are second in the CLC at 8-2 after a 7-0 win at Willmar High School. The Cardinals are 0-6 in the CLC.
Two singles matches required three sets to determine a winner. Fergus Falls’ Layla Zosel played a marathon third set with Willmar’s Aubrey Peterson, with Zosel winning 2-6, 6-2, 12-10 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, the Otters’ Ashtyn Lill overcame a first-set loss to beat Emily Floren, 2-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Willmar returns home for a CLC doubleheader against Detroit Lakes at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
All four singles players were victorious in Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s win over Redwood Valley in Redwood Falls.
Elle Kletscher, Ava Oakes, Tara Beyer and Emily McGinty each won in three sets at No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles for Benson/KMS.
Benson/KMS duos Avery Davis and Ella Lysen and Keala Carroll and Hazel Habben took the win. Davis and Lysen are the No. 2 doubles team and Carroll and Haben are the No. 3 doubles team.
Benson/KMS hosts Sauk Centre at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Benson.
Morris/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area won a series of doubles games to beat Yellow Medicine East in Morris.
Brianna Nelson won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles against Nora Meek of MACA/WCA. Sarana West earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against Ruby Lhotka of MACA/WCA. Abigail Jimenez won 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles against Lilia Asmus of MACA/WCA.
YME hosts Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Granite Falls.
Isla Dille and the doubles team of Emma Knudsen and Molly Patten claimed victory in the Dragons’ loss to Foley in Litchfield.
Dille, Litchfield’s No. 1 singles player, won 6-0, 6-0 over the Falcons’ Olivia Sauer.
Knudsen and Patten, the Dragons’ No. 1 doubles team, posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Foley’s Anna Dahlstrom and Chloe Bechtold.
Litchfield will next play in the Wright County Conference Tournament at 10 a.m. Thursday in Glencoe.
