The Pittsburgh Penguins have activated injured forward Vasily Ponomarev and sent him to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced Thursday.

Ponomarev, acquired by the Penguins in the trade of Jake Guentzelinjured his left shoulder during the pre-season.
Drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Ponomarev saw time with the Carolina Hurricanes, Tuscon Roadrunners, Chicago Wolves and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last year. With the Hurricanes, he collected two points in two games. In a total of 45 AHL regular season games, he scored nine goals and 30 points.
With Ponomarev expected to make his season debut soon, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is recruiting another solid player to add to its roster. Currently tenth in the overall AHL, they have managed to come together as a team and Ponomarev should help with that.
