Sophie Cunningham Hints at Something Big Amid Current WNBA CBA Uncertainty

The continued uncertainty of the CBA has been a sticking point for most in women’s basketball. As the disagreement between the WNBA and WNBPA persists, neither side is showing signs of letting up or giving in to the other’s demands. And this is now starting to frustrate people who want to see their favorite players take the field.

The WNBA and WNBPA announced that the two organizations had agreed to a moratorium as negotiations dragged beyond the CBA’s revised deadline. There are now real concerns and discussions that if such disagreement persists for a longer period of time, we could be heading toward a potential WNBA “lockout,” something Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham found “stupid.”

Sophie now hinted at revealing more information about the ABC’s uncertainty in an Instagram Story.

The story says the Indiana Fever star is “excited to share some things with you towards the end of the month,” mainly pointing to the ABC discussions she recently spoke about on the Show Me Something podcast.

Sophie disapproves of the pace at which the negotiations are taking place and made his displeasure known on the podcast.

Speaking to co-host West Wilson, Sophie pointed out: “Me and Sydney Colson were the only ones there last week, and our CBA is so stupid right now, like she’s heading into a lockout. So, nothing, we get weekly emails from the AP side, and it’s so stupid.”

As for the numbers behind the ABC disagreement, revenue sharing is at the heart of the issue.

While the WNBPA reportedly believes a 30 percent revenue share is more than deserved, given their contribution to the WNBA’s growing popularity, the governing body would consider a share between 15 and 17 percent.

Additionally, the moratorium announcement only further delays other proceedings, which could even delay the start of the 2026 WNBA season. The expansion draft, free agency and the 2026 WNBA draft are three major preseason events taking place due to the impasse.

At this point, there’s a real possibility that fans will be forced to watch a shortened WNBA season, or at worst, something else, if this disagreement ends in a lockout. WNBA hopefuls will also be dismayed by the ongoing proceedings as their future hangs in the balance.

Sophie Cunningham continues to hint at her preferred destination for the 2026 WNBA

The Indiana Fever guard is one of several names that could be missing from the list of protected players for the upcoming expansion draft. While Indiana Fever management has yet to make a decision, thanks to the agreed moratorium, only six players can be protected from the Expansion Draft. This number could even drop to five depending on the progress of negotiations between the WNBA and the WNBPA.

However, Sophie Cunningham isn’t shy about making her feelings known about where she would like to ply her trade during the 2026 WNBA season.

The Missouri-born player previously said she would love to team up with Caitlin Clark and Lexie Hull again at Indiana and pursue the WNBA championship.

The latest clue comes in the form of his appearance at the home of the Indiana Fever and the Indiana Pacers. Sophie Cunningham was spotted at Gainbridge Fieldhouse as the Indiana Pacers picked up a late 98-96 victory over the Boston Celtics. His presence was also confirmed by a post from the Indiana Fever account on social media platform X.

Sophie has had a great career at the Indiana Fever since moving to the franchise in 2024.

The 29-year-old has played in 30 games for the Indiana Fever in 2025, averaging 8.6 points per game. However, it was her defensive acumen and visible chemistry with her teammates that won the hearts of fans.

Teams cannot offer contracts to free agents or even name protected players from the expansion draft during the agreed-upon moratorium, as CBA negotiations take center stage. However, fans are hoping that the Indiana Fever franchise will find a way to retain Sophie Cunningham for the 2026 WNBA season.
