Sixers eliminate Embiid, Drummond and Lowry before meeting the Suns originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
The Sixers ruled out Joel Embiid on Monday night for their first night back home after a six-game road trip.
Before their game against the Suns, the Sixers scratched Embiid, Andre Drummond (sprained left toe) and Kyle Lowry (right hip soreness). Jared McCain (left lateral meniscus surgery) and KJ Martin (left foot stress reaction) remained out.
Embiid’s absence is due to a sprained left foot he suffered several games ago, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said. According to Nurse, Embiid’s injury is “nothing serious” and he is “day to day.” Embiid confirmed on Christmas that he injured his left foot late in the day. Victory for the Sixers against the Celtics and he had been listed as questionable in subsequent injury reports. He was absent from the team January 1 loss to the Kings on the first night of a back-to-back game.
Embiid has been playing very well since be sent off on December 23 against Spursaveraging 30.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists over his last five games. He shot 50 percent from the field, 56.3 percent from three-point range and 89.5 percent from the foul line during that stretch.
Lowry is no stranger to recent injury reports. The nurse said Monday that Lowry’s hip is “really bothering” the 38-year-old guard.
After missing the Sixers’ last three games with a sprained left hand, Kelly Oubre Jr. has been deemed fit to face Phoenix.
