Derick Hammes will coach some of the best high school football players in the state this summer. The Rossville head coach was announced as a member of the Kansas Shrine Bowl East coaching staff on Tuesday, December 16.
This is Hammes’ third time coaching in the Shrine Bowl. He served as East head coach in 2017 and assistant in 2016 and 2022.

“I am excited to be able to coach the ‘best of the best’ as I have another opportunity to compete in the Kansas ShrineBowl,” Hammes said in a press release. “Most importantly, I am honored to have the opportunity to help the Shrine Bowl achieve its mission of helping children in need.”

Hammes led Rossville to the Class 1A state championship game this season. The Bulldawgs finished the year with an 11-2 record as they fell to Sterling 35-34 in the title match.
The 2026 Kansas Shrine Bowl will take place on Saturday, June 27 at Emporia State’s Welch Stadium. Kansas Shrine Bowl rosters will be announced on Sunday, January 11.
