Report: Giants reportedly not including Eldridge in star trades originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Giants appear to have their sights set on another big move after signing of shortstop Willy Adames to a franchise-record contract earlier this offseason.
San Francisco, as Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported on December 11, was “involved” with the Astros in trade talks for outfielder Kyle Tucker before Houston dealt the slugger to the Chicago Cubs.
The Giants were not only interested, but they made “legitimate” offers to Houston for Tucker and to the Chicago White Sox for starting pitcher Garrett Crochet – who was ultimately traded to the Boston Red Sox – but they should have included the best hope and the first. goal player Bryce Eldridge, which they were not willing to do, The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly reported Thursday in his latest story.
Baggarly also mentioned that rival MLB executives have described San Francisco’s new baseball operations group led by Buster Posey and Zack Minasian as “hyperactive” in trade discussions.
Eldridge is not only the Giants’ top prospect, but he is considered to have legitimate star potential and could make his MLB debut as early as the 2025 season.
While stars like Tucker and Hook would have been big additions to the Giants’ roster and rotation, respectively, San Francisco clearly highly values its 20-year-old slugger.
