Report: Deebo plans to play in 49ers’ Week 4 game against Patriots originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
As injuries pile up for the 49ers, a positive reinforcement could return to the field for the Rouge et Or on Sunday.
Star wide receiver Deebo Samuel plans to play San Francisco’s Week 4 game against the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Saturday evening, citing a source.
Samuel did not play in San Francisco’s Week 3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams and was expected to miss “a few weeks” with a calf injury, according to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan. But the Wideout star returned to training Thursday and was upgraded to questionable for Sunday’s match.
“I came back pretty good and we went to practice the last couple of days and we still felt good,” Samuel said after Friday’s practice. “So we’ll see how it goes. … I think I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be with the information that I’ve been given and the timeline matches up pretty well.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter later reported the same news, citing a source, stating that Samuel “should” play against New England.

In two games this season, Samuel has already compiled 177 scrimmage yards and a touchdown to start the 2024 campaign.
In 15 games last season, Samuel recorded 60 receptions for 892 yards and seven touchdowns while adding 225 rushing yards and five more rushing scores. It’s no secret that the 49ers need their versatile playmaker on the field, and there could be a glimmer of hope for the 49ers Faithful.
