In some mock drafts, the Spurs select the subject with one of their top 10 picks.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs own picks Nos. 4 and 8 in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft, and many predict the team could look to add help at the point guard position.
And one of the projected top 10 picks, Nikola Topic, could be on their draft board.
However, the Serbian point guard’s draft pick could drop after recently suffering a knee injury.
Topic suffered a non-contact injury to his left knee during the first match of the AdmiralBet ABA League Final against Partizan Mozzart Bet.
A video surfaced of the playmaker having to be helped off the field and into the locker room because he couldn’t put weight on the injured knee.
It’s the same left knee that kept him out of action for nearly four months in January.
Many mock drafts have Topic going in the top 10 and being selected by San Antonio, but after another setback, it’s unclear if teams like the Spurs will use their pick to select the 18-year-old point guard.
The good news is he’s young, and maybe the injury isn’t as bad as it seems, but will his injury history force teams to pause when considering him as a potential player on the roster?
In the EuroLeague with Mega Basket, he averaged 18.4 points, 7.1 assists, one steal and 25.9% from the three-point line in 12 games played during the 2023-24 season. He is a dynamic 6’6″ point guard with incredible passing ability and can pressure the defense in the paint. His defense is mediocre and his shooting ability could use some work.
