Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City work through the the opposite of their long winning runs as he lamented the parallel lives of football.
The city was beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa Saturday to suffer their ninth defeat in 12 matches while they have triumphed only once.
And it left manager Guardiola reflecting on the fact that he has reversed his usual form.
“Always when we win a lot of games and titles, I say we are going to lose games,” he said. “When we win 13 or 14 games or 10 games and we lose one or draw one and we wonder ‘what happened?’ Why do you draw or lose a game? So it’s football.
“We won a lot, it was exceptional, and now we see the parallel. We didn’t expect it, me personally either and I don’t know what the outcome will be after this, so life gives you that. We must face it.
Defender Rico Lewis believes City have mental difficulties when scoring the first goal in a match, which he believes can trigger other problems.
He explained: “When we concede, it’s like we don’t have the right to concede. Like it’s not a normal thing that’s part of the game.
“Everyone in world football concedes a goal, but because we hold ourselves to such a high standard, when we concede we are so disappointed in ourselves, that’s when you will see more errors happen.
“At the start of the season, we initially conceded a few goals, but we bounced back straight away. It could be confidence, a lot of things, tired legs. But we have to get back to what we want to be.
