THE WNBA is growing at a rapid pace and the recent announcement by union leaders made this clear. On Monday, it was revealed that the league had generated enough revenue during the 2025 season to trigger revenue sharing among its players. As a result, all teams will receive a big collective reward, including the The Sparks of Los Angelesco-ownership of the former NBA and LA Lakers legend Magic Johnson.

According to ESPN’s Katie Barnesthe WNBA turned a profit for the first time last season. After the arrival of players like Caitlin Clarkthe league has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past two years.

Now, the league’s 13 teams will each receive $8 million to distribute among their active players throughout last season. After the update went viral on social media, it caught Johnson’s attention.

“As the owner of the LA Sparks, this is great news for the players, owners and the WNBA!” Johnson posted in a Instagram Story Wednesday. He was reacting to a post from Revolt Sports about the league’s financial success in 2025. Johnson became part-owner of the Sparks in 2014 alongside Mark Walter.

This disbursement of profits follows another piece of good news for WNBA players regarding league revenue. As reported by ESPN, the union announced Sunday that it would give a total of “$9.25 million to players from licensing revenue generated since 2020 through the sale of jerseys, trading cards, video games and other merchandise” by June 1.

The next WNBA season is currently scheduled to begin on May 8, but a collective bargaining agreement has not yet been reached between the league and the players’ association.

According to ESPN, the league has set a March 10 deadline for the WNPBA to agree on a new CBA to keep the 2026 schedule intact.
