NBA Fans Humorously Blame Warriors’ Kerr For Tatum’s Game Against Knicks originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
THE Warriors may no longer be the perennial NBA Finals contender he once was, but coach Steve Kerr still draws the ire of opposing fans across the league.
Kerr, who coached the U.S. team to a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, was criticized this summer for its use, or lack thereof, of Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum on the superstar-laden team.
Tatum received two DNP-CDs (did not play due to coach’s decision) throughout the tournament while sometimes playing sparingly in matches. Celtics fans were unhappy with Tatum’s role in Kerr’s rotations, even though Tatum himself chose to take the high road when asked about his role.
Fast forward to opening night of the 2024-25 NBA season, and Kerr-Tatum’s Olympic talk resurfaced once again after the Celtics star scored 37 points on 14 of 18 shooting since from the field and an 8 of 11 from 3.-point range, with four rebounds and 10 assists in the Boston game 132-109 demolition of the New York Knicks Tuesday at TD Garden.
NBA fans took to social media, where they sarcastically accused Kerr of fueling Tatum’s monster play and the team’s potential success to follow this season.
Stephen A Smith hammers Steve Kerr and tells people the truth:
“What Steve Kerr did to Jayson Tatum at the Olympics is egregious. You don’t compare yourself to a player on the All-NBA first team in the last three years who just won a championship a month… pic.twitter.com/M6Bf4Nxxeh
