The Titans introduced general manager Mike Borgonzi at a press conference Wednesday and Borgonzi was quick to acknowledge the reality of the team’s current situation.
Borgonzi said he believed there was talent on the roster, but pointed out the Titans were a three-win team, so there clearly wasn’t enough. This was a natural segue into the discussion of the quarterback spot, as the decision to go all-in on Will Levis in 2024 didn’t play out for the team.
Levis remains under contract and Borgonzi said he will be factored into the team’s plans, but he won’t be the only one in their plans as Borgonzi knows they need to make sure they have the right no one for this position.
“Were keep an open mind on this point, but the quarterback position is the most important position in sports,” Borgonzi said. “So we have to consolidate the quarterback position. We’re going to turn over every stone, whether it’s free agency, the draft or whether we have quarterbacks on the roster here. Will, we’re going to give him every chance to play and compete. But we’re going to attack this thing. We’re going to attack this question relentlessly until we find the answer.
The Titans have the first overall pick in this year’s draft, which usually leads to quarterback ties. Cam Ward and Shadeur Sanders are considered top picks this season, but Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker said Wednesday the team won’t pass up a “generational talent” with the pick. None of these quarterbacks really fit that bill, but Colorado cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter might and that could lead the Titans to take a different approach at the quarterback position. back this offseason.
