Dishes child Ronny Mauricio made his debut in the 2025 Dominican Winter League with LIDOM on Friday night and showed his power.
In his second at-bat of the game, Mauricio took a 1-2 fastball and threw it about 401 feet to give his team – Tigres del Licey – a 3-0 lead.
Mauricio, who was the team’s starting fielder, finished 1 for 5 with two strikeouts, but the outburst was a welcome sight for the young infielder and the Mets.

The 24-year-old is playing winter ball for the first time since suffering a knee injury that required surgery in 2023, which wiped out Mauricio’s 2024 year. Last season, Mauricio showed flashes but wasn’t consistent enough at the plate to warrant daily playing time, especially when the team was in the midst of a playoff berth.
Mauricio finished the year hitting .226/.293/.369 with a .662 OPS to go along with six home runs and 10 RBIs in 61 games.
With an evolving roster, Mauricio will try to make the roster this spring, but he’ll have to beat Brett Baty, which rebounded in 2025. There is also a chance that Mauricio could be traded this offseason. His performance at this year’s winter ball could go a long way in helping teams take a chance on the once-touted prospect.
