The choices are there and Jim Furyk, U.S. Presidents Cup Captain has selected his 12-player squad that will look to continue America’s dominance of the biennial team competition against the rest of the world (minus Europe).
Furyk has selected Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman, Russell Henley and Max Homa. Georgia graduates Harman and Henley are both expected to make their Presidents Cup debuts while Bradley returns to represent the Stars and Stripes as a player for the first time since 2013.
Furyk had to make some tough phone calls, including to Justin Thomas and Billy Horschel, who were both on the U.S. side in 2022, and Akshay Bhatia, who was looking to join his first team.
The Presidents Cup returns to the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal the week of September 24-29.
Here’s a closer look at the captain’s six picks.
Presidents Cup: Meet the six automatic American qualifiers
Sam Burns
Sam Burns is competing in his third U.S. team event. He went 0-3-2 at the 2022 Presidents Cup and 1-2 at the Ryder Cup in Rome last year. The partnership between him and friend Scottie Scheffler has not worked well so far. Burns, 28, is winless this season but has played well at the FedEx Cup and is considered a top player.
Captain Furyk on Burns: “Sam is an excellent player who has consistently placed in the rankings over the last four years. He has proven to excel in match play competition and has demonstrated an unwavering level of passion and determination on the course that will be a valuable asset to our team in Montreal.”
Keegan Bradley
Keegan Bradley returns to the Presidents Cup for the first time since 2013, when he went 2-2-1. Bradley was not named to the U.S. Ryder Cup team last season, but he was named the 2025 U.S. captain in July. Furyk named Bradley an alternate captain, but that was before he earned his seventh career PGA Tour victory at the BMW Championship after entering the week ranked 50th in the FedExCup. The win, one of three top-10 finishes this season, gave him a sixth career berth at the Tour Championship.
Captain Furyk on Bradley: “When I named Keegan as an alternate captain for the Presidents Cup, I knew he had a chance to make the U.S. team, and I can say without a doubt that he did. The grit he showed in the final round in Memphis, followed by the win in Denver, exemplifies the competitive nature he has always played with, and I know he will bring that same fire to Royal Montreal in a few weeks.”
Tony Finau
Tony Finau is set to play in the Presidents Cup for the third time. He made the team in 2019 and 2022 and has a 3-2-3 record. Finau finished second this season in the Strokes Gained: Approach the Green category. He finished T-2 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open and matched his career-best finish in a major championship with a T-3 at the U.S. Open, finishing two shots behind winner Bryson DeChambeau.
Captain Furyk on Finau: “Tony is one of the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour and his game meshes well with the other 11 players because of his consistency. He has become a mainstay in U.S. team competition and has a fun, outgoing demeanor that is infectious on the course and in the team room.”
Brian Harman
Brian Harman makes his Presidents Cup debut a year after making his first Ryder Cup appearance with Team USA. Harman, the 2023 British Open winner, failed to return to the winner’s circle but did record three top-10 finishes, including a T-2 at the Players Championship. He finished 31st in the FedEx Cup.
Captain Furyk on Harman: “Throughout his career, Brian has been one of the fiercest competitors I have seen in match play. His grit and tenacity were on full display in the 2023 Open Championship victory, and I look forward to having that spirit on our side at Royal Montreal.”
Russell Henley
Russell Henley didn’t win the 2024 season, but the four-time Tour winner had one of his best seasons, finishing T-4 at the Tour Championship. He’s become an excellent ball striker and can be an inconsistent putter. He’s one of the most underrated players on Tour and finally gets his chance to compete in international team competition for the Stars and Stripes.
Captain Furyk on Henley: “Russell has been one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour over the last two years, and I look forward to seeing him back in Montreal with Team USA next month. He’s unflappable under pressure and arguably one of the best putters in our game, which is a fantastic combination for success in match play.”
Max Homa
Max Homa performed so well at the 2022 Presidents Cup, where he went 4-0, and was one of the few bright spots at the 2023 Ryder Cup that captain Furyk could be forgiven for overlooking the fact that Homa hasn’t posted a top-10 since May. The 33-year-old is a six-time Tour winner and seems to play his best golf in the biggest moments. He finished T-3 at the Masters in April.
Captain Furyk on Homa: “Max plays at his best on the biggest stages, and that was on full display at the 2022 Presidents Cup and 2023 Ryder Cup. He was an emotional leader for both teams and someone who rallied all 11 players around him time and time again, and I look forward to seeing him represent the United States again in Montreal.”
