Fremd junior pitcher Hailey Lucas wasted no time making it known that she would be a force in the circle this season, helping the softball team start the year with a 2-0 record. Triton boys basketball may have to borrow Buffalo Grove Athletic’s slogan, “fight on” after overcoming a 12-point halftime deficit to win the Midwest District title Saturday, March 16. Triton (31-2) trailed 47-35 at halftime against Moberly Area. The seventh-ranked Triton College men’s basketball team will host the NJCAA Midwest District championship game at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the Jorndt Sports Complex gymnasium (Building R). The Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA) held its annual Freshman/Sophomore (F/S) and Women’s Wrestling Finals on Saturday, March 9 and 10 at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield with great success for some local athletes. The 2023-24 Journal Area girls basketball season was magical as eight players scored their 1,000th career points and three teams won state trophies.
