Matvei Michkov scores his first NHL goal and adds another just 5 minutes later originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
The Flyers were convinced that Matvei Michkov was going to change the look of their power play.
“Just on the power play, we hope he can help us there,” general manager Danny Brière said on July 1.
They saw him help out quite noticeably just three games into his freshman year.
The famous 19-year-old winger scored his first career NHL goal Tuesday night as the Flyers took advantage of a power play to take a 1-0 lead over the Oilers at Rogers Place. Just five minutes later, Michkov added a second goal on the power play.
Last season, the Flyers’ power play started 1 for 20 and finished the year with the worst rate in the league, 12.2 percent. Through seven periods this season, the Flyers’ power play was 4 of 12. Michkov had scored two of the goals and assisted on another.
“I think that for him, there are no limits” Joel Farabee said in September.
