Former NBA player Mark Jackson calls on the WNBA to give its players the money they deserve… TMZ Sports he hopes they no longer need to play overseas in the offseason to live comfortably.
WNBA salaries have been a big topic of discussion recently…after the superstar Kelsey Plum highlighted how revenue shared with female players is radically different from that of the NBA.
Since the average salary reported by the WNBA is $102,751 per year, many players end up playing in leagues in Europe and Asia to earn more money… which is exactly why. Brittney Griner went to Russia before her 10 months of incarceration.
Jackson wants players to not have to resort to international ball… saying, “I hope that, financially, we put these women, the professional athletes, especially the women in the WNBA, in a position where they will not have to add additional income to their accounts.”
For those who continue to play abroad, MJ thinks it’s important for players to be “more aware” of where they’re going… and says they should be well-versed in all laws and regulations in force during their visit.
Several players have verbalized their frustrations with WNBA checks…including Angel McCoughtrywho told us she would earn her WNBA salary “in a month in Russia.”

“Their talent level certainly demands it, so I’m doing everything I can to make sure they get every dollar they deserve.”
