Leicester City won their appeal against a ruling that an independent commission had jurisdiction to examine an alleged violation of the Premier LeagueThe rules of profit and sustainability.
The Premier League said it was “surprised and disappointed” by the a decision to support the Foxes’ appeal.
An independent appeals committee found that Leicester’s accounting period – after it was claimed the club had exceeded the maximum permitted loss of £105m over a three-season period – ended on June 30, 2023, following the club’s relegation from the top flight.
The Premier League said the appeals committee’s decision “effectively means that, although the club is a member of the (Premier) League from the 2019-20 to 2022-23 seasons, the League cannot take action against the club for exceeding the relevant PSR threshold for the associated accounting periods.”
Leicester said it “welcomed” the decision, adding that the verdict “supports our consistently stated position that any action against the club must be taken in accordance with the applicable rules”.
