Seven times NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmy Johnson is returning in a part-time driving role with the Legacy Motor Club in 2025, with races confirmed including Daytona 500 in February.
Johnson announced the news on social media on Thursday, confirming that the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600 would be on his driving schedule.
Johnson and the No. 84 Toyota will have to qualify for the field during qualifying or via dual races next month as an open, non-charter entry.
The 49-year-old ran nine Cup races behind the wheel of the No. 84 Toyota LMC last season, with a best finish of 26th in the season finale at Phoenix. Johnson qualified in the field for the 2024 Daytona 500 via duals and finished 28th.
Johnson joins a growing list of open entries for the Daytona 500 field, including former Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. with Garage TRICON, Justin Allgaier with JR Motorsports, Anthony Alfredo with Beard Motorsports and Helio Castroneves with Trackhouse. Castroneves is the only open entry with a guaranteed spot in the 40-car 500 field via the new provisional open exemption.
