Jelly Roll shared his excitement during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
“I always wanted to have the theme song,” Jelly Roll said. “I’m a big football fan. I grew up in the South, Pat. As I’m sure you know, it goes like this: Jesus, football, Lynyrd Skynyrd. In that order. Sometimes it changes; sometimes people put Lynyrd before college or college before Jesus, but that’s just the way it is.”
Jelly Roll has had a dream year. His commercial success came from hit singles like “Need a Favor” and “Save Me,” featuring Lainey Wilson, from his critically acclaimed album “Whitsitt Chapel.” The album earned him three CMT Music Awards and two Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance in February 2024. His popularity skyrocketed.
To top it all off, Jelly Roll performed at WWE’s SummerSlam event at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Not only did he perform, but he was also scripted, making a surprise appearance toward the end of the night. WWE tag team superstars Austin Theory and Grayson Waller insulted Jelly Roll, prompting the 39-year-old to leave his front row seat and head to the ring. He was joined by The Miz and R-Truth, adding to the event’s unforgettable moment.
During his appearance on ESPN, Jelly Roll reflected on the surreal experiences of the past year.
“Man, I’m so in the moment. Man, I barely have a phone. I’m so present. The other day, McAfee and I were in the green room for about an hour, and I didn’t realize neither of us had phones, no matter where we were,” Jelly Roll shared. “I had the craziest time[with]Undertaker. It’s the craziest experience ever, right? I relate to all of you in that I’m living the craziest life ever, too. I mean, it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Jelly Roll even posted a video of her surprise appearance at WWE SummerSlam on her X account, formerly known as Twitter. Her caption for the video read: “Absolute insanity – unreal – butter cookie bombs baby.”
