Paris Saint-Germain endured a difficult evening at the Emirates Stadium as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat on matchday two of the UEFA Champions League.
Blunt in attack, PSG were defeated by two goals in the first half with Gianluigi Donnarumma at fault – at least in part – on both goals, the first coming from the head of Kai Havertz and the second from a free kick from Bukayo Saka. However, while Italy international Donnarumma has faced heavy criticism for his performance between the sticks, he is not the only PSG player to have his quality questioned.
Speaking on Canal+, Former France and Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri criticized Nuno Mendes (22). The Portuguese international has had a difficult year with injuries, but he has been more consistent since the start of the current campaign (five appearances in all competitions, two assists).
Mendes is often praised for his work going forward, but against Arsenal he often found himself in possession. For Nasri, it was a tactic that not only limited the PSG player’s offensive potential, but also exposed his defensive weaknesses.
“I’ll be frank: he doesn’t know how to defend himself,” » said Nasri. “He knows how to attack and is dangerous but I don’t understand why he always finds himself as the third central defender.”
