Grand Forks – Veteran tennis coach Tom Wynne will be the head of another Grand Forks Central program, school announced on Monday.

Wynne accepted the Tennis coaching position for the chief boys. He also accepted the tennis post for girls in October.

The tennis season for central girls begins on March 31.

Wynne started his tennis career by playing for Serge Gambucci in Central, graduated in 1973.

Wynne played Und, winning a title of northern conference during his junior year.

Wynne led to tennis for the Grand Forks Park district and was the first employee of the Grand Forks Racquetball and Tennis Center.

Wynne resulted in male and female tennis of UND for 35 years. He retired in 2021 from und.

“Tom’s experience in tennis coach and his knowledge of the game is exceptional,” said Tony Bina, central sports director. “He has a passion for training tennis sports and is delighted to work with the boys ‘high school team. The passage of university players to now train secondary players is something that he is looking forward to. It will be a good choice to continue the success of our boys’ tennis program.”

Wynne is a member of Four Hall of Fames: North Dakota Tennis Hall of Fame, North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame, North Section Hall of Fame and und Athletics Hall of Fame. He took over in Central for Max Weisser, who led the knights for 17 seasons, including the last 14 as a chief coach.

“I can’t wait for the opportunity to train the Grand Forks central boys’ program,” said Wynne. “It will be unique to work with secondary age players and their malleability to be trained. It will be a fun challenge to coach and teach them the skills and concepts of tennis.”

Tom Miller

Miller has covered sports at the Grand Forks Herald since 2004 and was the sports editor of the year in 2019 (NSMA, NDAPSA), 2022 (NSMA) and 2024 (NDAPSSA).
