(Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae) ○…World number one Dustin Johnson (United States, photo) will not participate in the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup (total prize money of $9.75 million).
On the 14th (Korean time), the PGA Tour announced that “Johnson tested positive for COVID-19” and “he will forgo participation in this week’s CJ Cup.” Johnson expressed his disappointment, saying: “I am very disappointed to cancel my participation in the tournament,” and added: “I will do my best to recover as quickly as possible.” He also said, “I have had several phone calls with the PGA Tour medical team” and “I will follow the guidelines they have provided.”
In line with government quarantine guidelines, he will self-isolate before returning to the field. Johnson is a heavy favorite to win. Starting with the Travelers Championship in June, he won three times, including The Northern Trust in August and the Tour Championship in September. He was voted player of the year for the 2019/2020 season. In his last five tournaments, he has four top-two finishes, including two victories, making him the PGA Tour website’s predicted “Power Ranking No. 1.” The CJ Cup will take place on the 16th at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
