AUBURN, Ala. — For the 22sd times in the last 23 seasons, Auburn football has headed to the SEC tournament. The Tigers open this year’s event with Tennessee on Sunday, October 29 at 3:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
The Ashton Brosnaham Football Complex in Pensacola, Florida, hosts all games in the 2023 tournament. The SEC Network provides comprehensive coverage from start to finish.
“We’re here to make great memories, but we’re also here with something to prove,” the Auburn head coach said. Karen Hoppa said. “If we play our best game on both sides of the ball for all 90 minutes, we can make a deep run here in Pensacola, and we can also prove why we belong in the NCAA Tournament.”
During the regular season, Auburn scored 12 points while going 3-4-3 in the SEC to earn the 8th place overall. The Tigers picked up wins over Missouri (3-2), Arkansas (2-1) and LSU (3-0).
Tennessee takes 9th place with a 3-4-3 record of its own. The Lady Vols triumphed over Florida (2-0), Missouri (3-2) and Vanderbilt (1-0).
Facing Tennessee in the conference tournament, the Tigers 2-3-1. Auburn has advanced in each of the previous three meetings. The last time the two teams faced each other was in 2016. Auburn won 3-1. In 2012, the teams were tied 0-0 after the end of regulation and both overtime periods, however, Auburn found a 5-3 advantage in the penalty shootout to advance. The year before, in 2011, the Tigers defeated the Lady Vols 2-0 in the semifinals to earn a spot in the title game.
With a victory on Sunday, Auburn would consolidate its 19th win in SEC tournament history. The Tigers are 18-26 in this event all-time. In 2011, Auburn defeated Florida 3-2 in the final to win its first tournament title in school history.
